Many of these products have so many unknown ingredients, as opposed to the limited number of known, natural ingredients. They also cost a lot more than you will spend to make your own.


There are just as many or more toxins in our personal care products as our cleaning products.  Many of these harmful ingredients are in the form of synthetic, cheap fillers. Synthetic means fake, not real. Our bodies do not know what to do with fake stuff. We were not created that way. Regular cleaning is an important part of healthy, youthful skin; however, you can overdo it. Dermatologists agree that over-washing can lead to irritation and lack of moisture. If you have overly oily skin, you should wash your face in the morning and evening; if your skin is on the drier side, stick to once daily, in the evening.  Always wash your face after workouts to prevent breakouts.


TIPS to get the most out of your cleanser.

1) Take your makeup off before you cleanse. Most cleansers won’t remove all of your makeup, so start with an oil-based makeup remover.

2) Avoid drastic temperature changes while cleansing. According to dermatologists, that whole  “Wash with HOT to open your pores and then finish with COLD to close your pores“ thing is a myth and it can actually cause irritation.


3) It is a good idea to cleanse your face in the shower. Mild steam can help soften hardened oil in pores.

One other positive feature of Jojoba oil is its similarity to human skin oils, its use can trick the skin into thinking it has produced enough oil and thus will balance oil production without promoting acne or other skin problems.

FACIAL CLEANSER RECIPE


INGREDIENTS

½ cup unscented Castile soap

1 cup distilled water

2 Tbsp. jojoba oil or sweet almond oil

15 drops  Lavender essential oil

15 drops Frankincense essential oil


DIRECTIONS

Combine all ingredients into a 16 oz jar, mix, and enjoy!

MODIFIED RECIPE for 50 ml foam dispenser.

1 Tbsp Castile soap

2 Tbsp water

½ tsp jojoba oil

3 drops Lavender essential oil

The biggest argument in favor of using a skin toner is that it restores your skin's pH balance. Due to the alkalinity of soap, it causes our skin to be less acid after cleansing. Using a toner can help quickly return your skin to its proper pH level.


An alcohol-based toner strips off natural oils, so it is important to use a gentle alcohol-free toner. Make your own toner with a few easy-to-get, highly beneficial ingredients and essential oils that will transform this average toner into a premium product. Use your toner after cleansing and before moisturizing.


Vitamin E is both a nutrient and an antioxidant. Vitamin E oil prevents the formation of wrinkles by blocking free radical damage. It treats wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic and supports new skin cell growth, and speeds up cell regeneration. If you are more prone to acne, use less or omit this from the recipe, as it is heavy on your skin.

DIY FACE TONER RECIPE


INGREDIENTS

2 oz container of choice

2 oz Witch hazel

½ tsp Vit E  

3 drops Frankincense (optional)

3 drops Tea tree (optional)

3 drops Cypress

3 drops Geranium


DIRECTIONS

Fill 2 oz bottle ¼ an inch from the top with witch hazel. Add Vit E and essential oils. Shake well before use.

About ¼ cup dead sea mud

Apply a thin layer of mud mask on cleansed skin.

DIRECTIONS

Fill 2 oz container with Almond and Argan oil.

Add in essential oils and mix.

Use ring finger to apply under eyes in am and pm.

I know ...you're busy. You run all day long tending to your family, working a job, or running a business. You fall into bed each night exhausted.

I've been there. I have tried many things to help me sleep better over the years. Some things worked, some didn't.

Lavender

Known as the swiss army knife of essential oils. It is very calming. Studies show participants who diffused Lavender oil at night ranked their sleep 20% better than the placebo group. You can use it by its self or mixed with another oil.


CEDARWOOD

AHHH, relaxing, soothing Cedarwood. It helps the brain to STOP processing. It stimulates the limbic region of the brain which is the center of our emotions and memories. The limbic system is only activated by the sense of smell. This is why essential oils can be so powerful.

I use Cedarwood and Lavender together on my feet or diffuse them or both!




Vetiver

I have only recently started using this and it is my new favorite. I have been using it by itself with a carrier oil but you can blend it with the Lavender and Cedarwood too. Vetiver comes from the Vetiver plant in India. It can calm your nerves with its earthy smell and it helps to relax the nervous system. 



 Vetiver is a very thick oil so you have to warm it a little to get it to come out.  I carry it in my pocket or.....



** NOTE- Just like anything else there are safety guidelines to follow with essential oils. There are some oils you have to use a carrier oil with when applying to your skin.  I use a carrier oil with just about every essential oil. I like the way it feels and I feel like it absorbs better and makes the essential oil go further.

A few carrier oils you can use are: 

Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
Jojoba Oil
V6 from Young Living

FRANKINCENSE

I always say if it's good enough for Jesus, its good enough for me :)

Frankincense has a sweet, warm balsamic aroma that helps to refocus the mind, overcome stress. It helps clear the mind to get a good night's sleep.

12 Ingredients To Avoid In Your Personal Care Products.


The ingredient list on our personal care products can be downright scary. With so many listed and many of them, you can't pronounce much less know what they are.  Try this--take a few of the ingredients listed and search on Google with the words "dangers of" in front of it and see what happens. It's shocking and to be honest, makes me a little mad. 

These ingredients can be even more harmful to our children! Their little bodies are still growing which makes some of these ingredients even more dangerous.


Many of these ingredients are known as endocrine disruptors, which means they jack up your hormones. I don't know about y'all but my hormones don't need any more jacking up than they can be already!!

What exactly are endocrine disruptors?

They are naturally occurring compounds or man-made substances that can mimic or interfere with hormones in the body. They may turn on, turn off, or modify signals that hormones carry. In other words, wreak havoc on our bodies. Many of these ingredients are synthetic, which means fake. Our bodies were not created to filter out the fake stuff. Here is the list of 12 ingredients to watch out for.


Propylene Glycol and Butylene Glycol--The EPA consider this so toxic it requires gown, gloves, and goggles when burying. They also warn against skin contact to prevent brain, kidney and liver abnormalities.

Parabens- Methyl, Butyl Propyl and Ethyl.Used as preservatives. Not always labeled. Used in deodorants and other skincare products and have been found in breast cancer tumors. May contribute to male sterility, hormone imbalance in females and early puberty.

Phthalates-Usually not listed on the label but in many products. Health effects include damage to the liver and kidneys, birth defects and decrease sperm counts.

Sunscreen chemicals: These are common ingredients in sunscreens. They are known to be free radical generators and are believed to damage DNA and cause cancer.

        Avobenzone

        Benzophenone

         Methoxycinnamate

         PABA

Another really big ingredient to look out for is fragrance. It can mean hundreds of different chemicals that they do not have to list. If you see fragrance listed, it's not good!
